Basic education enhancement

VVIVA believes that women/teenage mothers are healthier and more productive when they are not worried about where their children will go to school, the school fees, and meals while at school.  VVIVA established St. Mary’s Nursery and Primary school to provide access to basic education for the OVC under the care of the women

The school provides its learners’ meals, a friendly, safe and inclusive learning environment for all to study to the completion of primary school.  A number of stakeholders including but not limited to children, parents/caregivers, teachers, local leaders, and likeminded civil society organizations are mobilized to participate in children’s learning by encouraging them to play their role in ensuring quality education. This is achieved through establishing school clubs which are platforms for children to participate in different school activities fostering their rights, co-curricular activities, Music dance and drama, debate, and reading. The learners are equipped with age appropriate sexual reproductive health information and life skills to enable them cope with challenges that come with adolescent age. This is intended curb the escalating school dropouts relating to unwanted teenage pregnancies and early marriages in Busoga subregion.
